At Jet Cannabis, we offer may different strains, flavors and brands of vape cartridges and almost all (with the exception of CO2) fall into one of two categories, Live Resin and Distillate. What is the difference and is one better than the other?
First, lets discuss the difference. Live Resin refers to the state of the cannabis plant before it goes into extraction. Processed in similar fashion as all cannabis concentrates, Live Resin is made with fresh, never dried or cured, plant product. The idea is that by keeping the plant in a "live" state more flavor and terpenes are able to extracted. A good analogy is to think of it like cooking and eating fresh herbs opposed to dried herbs. Live Resin is also unrefined so the presence of residual plants product will lead to a stronger cannabis flavor.
Distillate is a highly refined cannabis oil where the process isolates cannabinoids, like THC, to provide a highly potent and pure oil typically high in THC (80% and over). The raw oil, like Live Resin, is full plant matter that is then processed through a heated distillation process removing impurities.
While Distillate is higher in THC it does not necessarily mean it is "better". THC and other cannabinoids react together along with the plant terpenes to yield an effect consistent with a specific strain. Within distillate vape products, terpenes are reintroduced to the oil for better flavor and effect, however with Live Resin all the terpenes remain naturally present and does not require additional terpene additives.
Both options are good options and very high quality. For people looking for a more well rounded high and effect, Live Resin is the way to go. If you are looking for a high THC effect, typically felt immediately but for shorter duration, Distillate is the route to go. Our bodies have a tendency to build a tolerance towards certain strains and types of oil so my recommendation is to mix it up if the effects begin to wane.
